The Pink Shoelace Foundation. People walking with people.

Opportunities & Ideas

What matters to you, and how could we make a difference there?

The Pink Shoelace Foundation is early, and growing carefully. We would like to hear how our purpose might connect with your interests, your skills, your community, and the organizations you care about.

Our mission

The official mission of The Pink Shoelace Foundation

The Pink Shoelace Foundation increases access to grief and loss support for individuals and families who could not otherwise afford it, and strengthens community capacity to walk alongside people experiencing loss in any form, not only death, but divorce, illness, estrangement, and other significant life transitions.

The Foundation pursues this through three core programs: Sponsored Access, funding participation in structured grief-support programs for individuals facing financial hardship, with priority given to underserved populations such as youth aging out of foster care, family members who are caregivers of elderly parents who have Alzheimer’s/Dementia, parents who’ve experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss; Community Connection, organizing volunteer-based service that pairs practical support with companionship for people actively navigating loss; and Public Awareness, educating communities and organizations on recognizing and responding to grief in its many forms, through the Foundation’s pink shoelace symbol and public outreach.

An invitation

Look around your community

Look around your community. Think about the schools, businesses, healthcare organizations, nonprofits, and other groups serving people every day. How might The Pink Shoelace Foundation help them better recognize and support people experiencing grief?

We see this as working alongside others, not in competition. We are exploring how to complement the work other organizations already do, not replace their services or take ownership of their communities.
